For Homeowners

5 questions
What is HomeHero Alliance and who is it for? +
HomeHero Alliance is a technology platform that guides homeowners through the entire home renovation journey — from design and financing to contractor selection, inspection, and moving. We're designed specifically for homeowners in underserved communities who have historically been excluded from safe, affordable renovation services. You don't need perfect credit or high income to start your project.
How do I get started with my renovation project? +
Start by clicking "Start Your Project" on any page. You'll create a free account, answer a few questions about your home and project goals, and our system will match you with financing options, design tools, and vetted contractors in your area. The entire onboarding takes about 10 minutes. From there, we guide you step-by-step through our 12-milestone HomeHero Journey.
Is HomeHero available in my city? +
We're currently launching our pilot in Detroit, Michigan, with Phoenix and Cleveland coming in Q1 2027. If you're outside these markets, you can still sign up and we'll notify you when HomeHero launches in your area. We're expanding to 10 cities in 2027–2028.
What types of renovation projects does HomeHero support? +
HomeHero supports virtually all residential renovation projects: roofing, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, kitchen and bathroom remodels, additions, ADUs, energy retrofits, accessibility modifications, and more. For commercial and multi-unit projects, see our HeroBricks service.
What does it cost to use the HomeHero platform? +
Creating a homeowner account and accessing basic tools is free. The HomeHero platform fee — covering project management, HeroVerify inspections, and contractor coordination — is included in your project budget and is never an out-of-pocket cost to you. For RenderReady AI design, free sessions are included with every project; premium design subscriptions start at $29/month.

Financing (LendHero)

4 questions
What credit score do I need to get a LendHero loan? +
Unlike traditional lenders, HomeHero uses our proprietary Y-Score — a whole-person assessment that considers payment history, employment stability, home equity, and community factors alongside credit history. Homeowners with credit scores as low as 580 may qualify. We encourage anyone to apply regardless of credit score.
What are the interest rates on LendHero loans? +
LendHero rates range from 4.5% to 8.9% APR depending on your Y-Score, loan amount, and CDFI partner. Most LMI homeowners qualify for rates significantly below conventional renovation loan averages. We never charge prepayment penalties. All rates are disclosed upfront — no surprises.
How are contractors paid? Is my money protected? +
Yes — your renovation funds are held in escrow and released in milestone-based installments. Contractors are paid after each milestone is verified by a HeroVerify inspector, not in advance. This protects you from contractor abandonment, incomplete work, and predatory practices. You have full visibility into every payment through your homeowner dashboard.
Can I combine a LendHero loan with a grant or other assistance? +
Yes. HomeHero actively helps you layer multiple sources of funding. Our team identifies eligible state HFA grant programs, weatherization assistance, CDBG funds, and local housing authority programs that can reduce your loan amount or cover specific costs. Many homeowners use LendHero as a "top-up" to grant funding they already qualify for.

Contractors & Vendors

3 questions
How does HomeHero vet its contractors? +
All HomeHero contractors go through a rigorous onboarding process: license verification, insurance confirmation, background check, reference interviews, and a work quality review. Once active, contractors are continuously rated by homeowners after every milestone, and any contractor falling below our quality threshold is immediately removed from the network.
How do I become a HomeHero contractor? +
Apply via our contractor portal. You'll need a valid state license, $1M general liability insurance, and at least 3 verifiable project references. MWBE-certified contractors receive priority placement in our matching system. Approved contractors gain access to a steady pipeline of verified, funded projects with escrow-protected payment.
Does HomeHero take a commission from contractors? +
HomeHero does not take a markup on contractor labor or materials. Contractors pay a platform subscription fee to access project bids and tools — starting at $149/month for basic access. This fee covers bid access, project management tools, payment protection, and dispute resolution support.

HeroVerify Inspections

3 questions
What is a HeroVerify inspection? +
HeroVerify is our independent milestone inspection system. Before any contractor payment is released from escrow, a certified HeroVerify inspector visits your site, completes a standardized checklist using our mobile app, and either approves or flags the work. You receive a digital inspection report with photos for every milestone — giving you full transparency and protection.
How many inspections happen on a typical project? +
A typical project includes 3–5 HeroVerify inspections tied to our milestone payment schedule: (1) Demolition & Prep, (2) Rough-In (framing, plumbing, electrical), (3) Mid-Project Review, (4) Punch List, and (5) Final Completion. Complex projects or those involving permits may have additional interim inspections.
What happens if an inspector finds a problem? +
If a HeroVerify inspector flags an issue, the milestone payment is held until the issue is corrected and a re-inspection passes. You receive a written report of all deficiencies. If the contractor refuses to correct the work, HomeHero's dispute resolution team intervenes on your behalf — and in serious cases, we will fund a replacement contractor to complete the work.

HeroAgent Program

2 questions
What is a HeroAgent? +
HeroAgents are community-based referral partners — real estate agents, social workers, faith leaders, neighborhood advocates, and homeowner service professionals — who refer homeowners to HomeHero and earn referral commissions. HeroAgents are the heart of our local market strategy; they provide the community trust that no amount of advertising can replace.
How much do HeroAgents earn? +
HeroAgents earn 1.0–2.0% of completed project value depending on their tier (Bronze, Silver, Gold). Active HeroAgents with 10+ completed referrals per quarter unlock Gold status with 2.0% commissions, accelerated payment, and co-marketing support. See the full HeroAgent page for the complete tier breakdown.

RenderReady Design Studio

2 questions
How does RenderReady work? +
RenderReady uses AI to create photorealistic 3D renders of your renovation before a single wall comes down. Upload photos of your space, answer a few style questions, and our AI generates design concepts in minutes. You can then explore different materials, finishes, and layouts — giving you confidence in your renovation vision before committing to a contractor.
Can I use RenderReady to get a cost estimate? +
Yes. RenderReady integrates with our contractor bidding system. Once you finalize your design, contractors in the HomeHero network can bid against your AI-generated design spec — resulting in more accurate, apples-to-apples bids and fewer change orders during construction.
